Romes swag punishment
    • Romeos punishment is more than fair.  He killed a man and he is lucky he didn't die.  Three reasons are he killed someone, he wasn't that hgih of imoportance, and a part of the kingdom hated him with a burnign passion.  He killed a person like if you kill someone in america you will most likely have the death penalty he is luck he did not get hung.  "Romeo slew Tybalt.  Romeo must not live"(Shakespeare).   Romeo is gone but i feel like he should have died or imprisoned and he just got a simple banishment.  He isn't that big factor in the kingdom he is not a difference maker like he doesn't help people he is just sort of there.  People were not a fan of him like the queen and a big part of the capulets population.  That is why Romeo punishment is more than fair and he really should have it a bit harsher.

Romeos punisment

I think Romeo's punishment of being banished is fair, for killing Tybalt. I think so because, Tybalt started the fight and killed Mercutio. That was Romeo's best friend, and he had a reason to kill where Tybalt did not. Tybalt was mad that they went to a Capulet party uninvited, but they did no harm so why try to hurt or kill them? For example, Tybalt said " This by his voice should be a Montague. Fetch me my rapier, boy. What dares the slave come hither, covered with an antic face, to fleer and scorn at our solemnity? Now by the stock and honour of my kin, to strike him dead I hold it not a sin." (act 1 scene 5)

Romeos punishment

Romeo's Punishment.
Romeo’s punishment was fair because Romeo did kill someone in the first place. Just because Romeo killed someone i feel like it’s still sorta okay because the person Romeo killed was Tybalt and Tybalt killed Mercutio. Therefore if you look at it in the type of way of self defense, Romeo killed someone after that person killed his best friend, he was protecting his friend. Not only did he try to protect his best friend he also saved someone elses worries about trying to deal with Tybalts punishments, Tybalts punishments would have been death probably. I think Romeo's punishment was reasonable because he was protecting his friend, he was saving someones worries.

ROMEOS UNFAIR BANISHMENT

i think romeos banishment is unfair. i think it is unfair because tybalt was the one who started the whole thing. tybalt killed mercutio, and on the other hand, romeo did kill tybalt in return, so he got banished by the prince as he demonstrates (scene 1,act 3,line 180-185)" And for that offence immediately we do exile him hence."   indeed it is also unfair because he is young and doesn't have a job or any where to live outside of Verona except for the streets. then i think it was also unfair because he is a Montague. i think that if he were a Capulet and killed a Capulet over the same thing they would of let him stay in Verona and the worst thing they could have done to him was throw him in jail. that is why romeos banishment is unfair.

the punishment that he deserved.

Romeos punishment is completely fair because he killed Tybalt when there were other ways to deal with Mercutio’s death. It was fair that he got banished because he can hardly live without Juliet and the guilt of him killing Tybalt is already killing him inside. That’s how he should’ve dealt with his best friend’s death. Also, romeo shouldn't have killed Tybalt just because he was "mad" Tybalt could've had the same guilt that romeo had before he got killed.
Andy Brown

yes i do because he should have been killed but he was told to vanished. so i think its fair.

Romeo's Unfair Punishment

Romeo’s punishment is not fair.  It is not fair because Prince said that if the families got in a fight again, the punishment would be death.  Another reason that it is not fair is because Romeo was the last one to strike and kill.  The last reason is that the punishment was too soft, they are letting him go after killing someone out of anger.  The Prince clearly states to the Montagues and Capulets, “If you ever disturb our streets again, your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace.” (Act. 1 Scene. 1).  Despite the Prince threatening their lives, he still went soft on his punishment against Romeo.  Romeo clearly started the fight between himself and Tybalt because he is the one who said, “This shall determine that.” (Act. 3 Scene. 3).  This means that he was challenging Tybalt and causing his own banishment.

Romes Punishment

I think Romeo's punishment isn't fair , I understand the rage he had, his best friend was just killed. Tybalt shouldn't have put himself in that situation. Tybalt deserved to die. First off Tybalt killed Mercutio for no reason . It is equal a Montague and Capulet was killed. I think if  Romeo was killed that would've started an all out killing spree.        ******Not Finished******
Personally, I do in fact believe that Romeo's Punishment was fair. Not only because he killed another man, but also because instead of "facing the music" per say; he ran away from where he killed Tybolt. If anything, Romeo got incredibly lucky; thanks to his father Romeo's sentence was reduced from immediate death, to just banishment. Its understandable that Romeo had a clear motive to have killed Tybolt- but was taking another's life worth avenging his best friend? That's a question, left to Society's standards and that persons morals.
romeos punishment is not fair due to the fact that Tybolt killed Mercuchio and back then its more like a life for a life, an eye for an eye.  He deserves to go on trial for his crimes.  He should get death though which was his original punishment.  Though with Romeos circumstances it makes it hard to kill him. So banishment is the only punishment.

Why Romeo should be banished

Romeo's punishment is in every way fair because he had a reason for killing Tybalt, Mercutio was killed in vein for no reason but for Romeo trying to bring peace between the two, so Romeo was angry to the point where he could kill someone. Romeo was just trying to be happy with Juliet but if they can't have that Romeo that is "in love" and would die for that woman. Romeo is love struck but it truly isn't true and he is going to be sent away, they are going to be foolish and try and kill themselves. The punishment Romeo received was truly justified, he deserved to be banished and to be gotten rid of for killing a man.
The punishment of Romeo

I believe that romeo's punishment is fair. The first reason why is because the Prince said that the next quaril will be punished by death. He is allowed to be near Verona not a continent away. he can still see Juliet because friar Lawrence said he will help unite them.

Romeo and Juliet
In Romeo and Juliet, when Romeo kills Tybalt in revenge, his punishment should have been death as the prince had commanded, in any civilized country "capital punishment" or the death penalty is the right punishment for the murder of another human being. Another reason that romeo should be put to death is that he is married to the opposite party. not only is this a autracity but this is civily incorrect, thaat would be like a north korean and a south korean getting married, it just doesnt work.

romeos punishments

Romeos punishment is very bad considering he murdered somebody which in those times in  humanity store from somebody will be executed. The honesty no reason to kill Tybalt because of the bad signal not harm him and it was not a self defence he was just killing his best friend which is no reason to kill. Romeo is just killing because he cannot face the fact that he is a complete phony. Do you love one girl and then decides to move on to another war and in the process he sleeps with Juliet and probably knocks her up. I have a really bad feeling that Romeo has ETA is Steve post dramatic stress disorder. Only I was just about to deal with the bags that is Aksarben there is nothing to do with the end if that means he has to kill Arthur's wife just to get to then that's fine if you moved on from one job to another.

Trey Taylor

Was it Fair?

I think that Romeo’s punishment was fair. It was Fair because Romeo did kill tybalt, the punishment for murder is death, and tybalt killed mercutio. Romeo killed tybalt therefore he can't just be allowed to roam freely he has to be punished somehow and I think banishment is a suitable punishment. The punishment for murder is death and since Romeo killed tybalt he should die but the prince is being nice and only banishing him which is a blessing compared to death. Mercutio suggest, “ Come sir, your passado”. [They fight mercutio falls]. Tybalt killed Mercutio and although Romeo was just trying to redeem his friend's murder and trying to save himself because Tybalt did want to kill him and probably would if he got a chance he did kill Tybalt and needs to be punished by banishment.
Yes Romeo's punishment is fair because he has killed another person and should be sent to death. friar Lawrence agrees when he says "o deadly sin, o rude unthankfulness. thy fault our lawcalls death, but the kind prince, taking thy part hath rushed aside the law and turned that black word death to banishment. this is dear mercy and thou seest it not."(III,iii). Another reason why this decision is fair because the prince says it is.

Romeo's Punishment

I both believe that Romeos punishment is fair and not fair. I believe this because he did kill a man. But in the same since Tybalt did also kill his best friend. Any sane person would have lost there mind if they would have  scene  there best friend get murdered right in front of there eyes. Would you have just sat there and not retaliated in any way shape or form? No, you would have done something to help with the pain. I do however think that in the  same since his punishment was fair because he did commit a serious crime and  needed to be punished. I do believe that the only reason he was not sent to receive the death penalty because someone on the other side of the family had done the same thing. Romeo should be grateful for the fact that the punishment he got was all he received. The only issue now is how he and Juliet will stay together. He made the mistake he now has to face the consequences.

Romeo's Punishment

Romeos punishment was being banished from Verona instead of receiving the death penalty. Romeo’s punishment was fair because of the fact he killed Tybalt out of anger, he was defending himself, and he wasn’t in his right mind at the moment. Romeo describes his anger by stating “Alive, In triumph, and Mercutio slain away to heaven respective lenity, and fire eyed fury be my conduct now! Now Tybalt take the villain back again that late thou gavst me, for Mercutio soul is but a little way above our heads.” (Act III, Scene 1) This results in Romeo making the decision he did on getting revenge back on Tybalt. Romeo was defending himself by the fact that Tybalt and Romeo were arguing before Romeo drew his sword to stab him. At the time that Tybalt killed Mercutio, Romeo was filled with so much rage and anger that is resulted in him making the decision he did. This is proving that Romeo’s punishment was fair since the judge felt sorry for Romeo and decided to spare his life going against the court rules.

Romeo and Juliet. Emma Long

Romeo's punishment is fair because he got it better then he would have before. I think they gave Romeo not as bad as a punishment because if it were someone else  he would have gotten killed. Just because he was a good person and would never do that it made him seems like an outcast because know one new that he would do that. That's how Romeo's punishment was fair.

Is romeos punishment fair or not

Romeos punishment to me is very fair and I think that what they did actually helped him because he could have been killed and if he stayed then he would have cause many more fight because he  lived and got no punishment also I think that Romeos would have made things worse with their families than they already were and he could have been the person to either get everyone  killed or start  a war because on one side they killed Romeos best friend and on the other hand Romeo killed one of the kings most trusted men and Romeo to them deserve to be killed  and it also might have saved him because if Romeo stayed then they would have killed Romeo most likely any ways so I do believe that he punishment was fair and maybe saved many lives by kicking Romeo out including his own.

Caitlyn Daniels....my thoughts on Romeo

My Thoughts on Romeo

My opinion on Romeo so far is I think he is very dramatic and a player. I think this because, he was going to kill himself over a girl and he thought she was beautiful but, that all changed when he saw Juliet. For example, Romeo said "forswear it, sight. For I ner'er saw true beauty till this night." This shows that he will fall for just any pretty face with out getting to know them first. I do not like Romeo because, he is a player and he thinks he is in love with someone just because their beautiful without getting to know them. So, he judges without getting to know someone first. Also, he is too dramatic because, he thinked he loved this girl Rosaline so much that he would kill himself over her, but he switched his mind when he met Juliet, which makes him too dramatic.

Romeo Character synthesis

To me Romeo is very unique character.  He can literally turn his mind from off and on like a switch he is very unpredictable, for example when he was in love with Rosaline he changed his mind to Juliet in a matter of minutes, “Guest list… My fair niece Rosaline and Livia,  And those who often drowned, could never die… be burnt for liars on fairer than my love”  (Shakespeare 46-48).  Like in the quote he just changes to Juliet as soon as he lays eyes on her.  “Then move not, while my prayer’s effect I take.  Thus from my lips (Romeo to Juliet) Juliet-Then have my lips the sin that they took”(Shakespeare 72).  He is a pretty chill dude but he is no stranger when it comes to love,  I mean he will do anything to hook up with someone he is in love with and i mean any one he will even break someone’s heart for another man of woman he is in love with,  he is very unpredictable as well i mean he almost himself for Rosaline and then he just turn one of his switch on in his brain and said Juliet is the one its like he backs up on what he said.

CHARACTER ANALYSIS

what i think of romeos character is that he is very dumb and is very confusing. what i think of him is that one day he is in love with one person and if the person refuses to go out with him, he wants to kill his self. then he sees another girl and falls in love with her until he can get with her. i in my opinion is that i dislike him. i dislike him because he does what ever he wants. he like goes to one person then to the other person without caring. that is what i think of romeos character.
My opinion of Romeo

Romeo is a crazy young man who gets too emotionally attached to young women. Romeo is a very interesting character. Only does he fall in love easily but he also is very emotionally unattached I say this because he fell in love with Roseline and no less than six hours later her fell head over heals for Juliet. After the party it was he supposed to be at he went and snuck into juilets backyard. He being a Montighue was forbidden because she was a capuliet this just proves that he's not proud of who he is.
Romeo is a character that lives very much in the moment, he can jump from great depression to being the happiest man alive in an instant. Romeo is a man who can be in grievance but will go for another skirt in a heartbeat. In the novel Romeo and Juliet when they first meet go right for the kiss and don't say a word.

Romeo's Character

Romeo’s character in the beginning of the book is dramatic and depressing because he almost kills himself because cannot get with this girl Rosaline that belongs to the Capulets. Romeo says to Benvolio “The blind man can never forget the inestimable value of his lost eyesight.  Show me a lady who is extremely beautiful: of what significance is her beauty, except to remind me of one who exceeds her in loveliness? Goodbye.  You cannot teach me to forget.” (Romeo and Juliet pg. 41).  He is telling Benvolio that no matter what girl he looks at, it will only remind him of Rosaline and how she is the most beautiful girl to him and that no girl can surpass her beauty.  When Romeo and his friends go to the party, his character changes completely.  When he sees Juliet, he completely snaps out of the depressed and overly dramatic Romeo and switches to a happy and romantic Romeo.  When he lays eyes on her, he is completely in love, “She embellishes night like a rich jewel in a rich Ethiopian’s ear- too beautiful for everyday use, too valuable for this world.” (Romeo and Juliet pg. 69).  Romeo is now completely in love with Juliet, or he thinks he is because this is the first time he has seen her.  My reaction to Romeo is that he is a very complicated and dramatic guy.  He overreacts to failed relationships and he falls in love with pretty much any girl he looks at.  I do not identify with him because the way he acts is completely different from the way I am.  I do not overreact from failed relationships and I am not desperate to find someone to spend my life with.  Romeo is just one complicated person in love.

Romeo and Juliet

I think Romeo (excuse my language) is a man whore.  He’s dramatic, love seeking and willing to die for a false since of love.  Those are the defining features of Romeos character.  “When the devout religion of mine eye maintains such falsehood, then turn tears to fires; and those who, often drowned, could never die, transparent heretics, be burnt for liars. One fairer than my love!  The all seeing sun ne'er saw her match, since first the world begun. (pg. 46)” If I was asked if I like Romeo I would have to say I dislike him over his compassion to kill himself over love and then switches his heart that quick.  I in all honesty think that this is a pathetic to show love and compaction.  If Shakespeare really wanted to make a good romance play he should have had them grow old and die together instead of committing suicide.  That is why I don’t identify Romeo as a real person.  Plus the fact that Romeo would take his life for someone her barley knows makes him a clingy and desperate person over love A.K.A. a man whore (again excuse the language.

opinions on Romeos character

I think that Romeo is just in love with the idea of love. I believe this because in act one scene one Romeo says depressing stuff like he is so sad because Rosaline doesn’t want to get with him and that his life is over but once he saw Juliet he says that he is so in love even though he just saw her. To make my point clearer he goes from one girl to another in like a matter of minutes. For example when he saw Juliet for the first time he says stuff like “oh, torches look dim beside her! She embellishes night like a rich jewel in an Ethiopian’s ear-too beautiful for everyday use, too valuable for this world. She stands out like a snow-white dove among the crows. Once the dance is over, I’ll see where she stands and make my rough hand blessed by toughing hers. Did my heart know real love till now? My eyes need look no further: I hadn’t see true beauty till tonight.” Even though just a few hours ago he was going on about how beautiful Rosaline is.  Another thing is he will do just about anything too keep this love that he so desires, he would even spit on his families name . He expresses this claim when he hears Juliet complain about how she wishes he was not a montague and he said” I don’t like to use my name to tell you who I am. My name, dear saint, is hateful to me because it’s an enemy of yours. If It were written, I’d tear it up.

My insight of Romeo

In my opinion, Romeo is irrational, sorrowful, and a foolish boy, who doesn't embrace what "love" is until he meets the love of his life; that will eventually send his sanity spiraling downwards. In the book, Romeo and Juliette, it clearly states "Bid a sick man in sadness make his will? A word ill-urged to one that is so ill. In sadness, I do love a woman." (pg.38) This quote was when Romeo was still madly in love- or thought he was madly in love with this girl Rosaline. Though, later on when Romeo goes along to go crash a Capulet party, he sees who he thinks truly is the love of his life; Juliette. In the book it reads, "I'll watch her place of stand, And touching hers, make blessed my rude hand. did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight. For I ne're saw true beauty till this night." (pg. 68 Line 45) Romeo had just seen Juliette at the Capulet Party, and he again believes he is in love; thus proving Romeo is in fact not just , irrational, and sorrowful, he's foolish as well.

Romeo and His Scattered Emotions

Romeo’s character so far is very dramatic because he at the beginning of the book is very dark and sad and ready to kill himself over this girl Rosaline. He says, “Tut I have lost myself, I am not here. This is not Romeo, he’s some other where. This shows how sad he was the Rosaline didn’t love him. He felt out of himself like he wasn’t even living anymore. Then, he just looks at Juliet and immediately forgets about Rosaline and goes full out in love with Juliet and is ready to marry her. My personal thought about Romeo is that I don’t like him because he is too dramatic and stupid basically. He does everything to the full extent without thinking about the consequences and what’s going to happen next. He says, “O blessed, blessed night. I am afeard, being it night, all this is but a dream, too flattering sweet to be substantial”. This shows that he is so in love with her that he thinks he is dreaming because it is too good to be true and earlier in the play he said he would marry her without thinking of what could happen to him by doing so. I do not identify with Romeo at all. I tend to put the least amount possibly into something I do and I always think about the outcome in everything I do because I don’t want to ever be set up to fail.
   Romeo's Personality

Romeo’s personality can best be described as him being very emotional, dramatic, and the romantic type. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo says “Why such is love’s transgression griefs of mine lie heavy in my breast. Love is a smoke made with the fumes of sighs” (Shakespeare, 36).  This shows Romeo being devastated that he is not able to be with Rosaline. Romeo can also be described as being dramatic. Romeo quotes “I have nights cloak to hide me from their eyes and but thou love me let me find me here. My life were better ended by their hate than death prorogued wanting of thy love” (Shakespeare, 88). This provides that Romeo is basically saying he would rather end his life then not being to live without Juliet’s love .Romeo can be considered romantic while speaking to Juliet. Romeo quotes "You enhance this night as an angel seen by astonished mortals. This shows hes very polite to Juliet and generous I like Romeo because he is romantic to Juliet and would do anything to make her happy.  An example of this is when Romeo and Juliet decide that they are going to get married he tries to make arrangements made to make this happen.

Romeo's Personality

                                        Romeo's Personality

The character, Romeo from the Shakespearean play, Romeo and Juliet is a very interesting character to talk about. Romeo is mysterious, devoted, and a player. But most of all, Romeo is extremely emotional. This boy is very naive, being so young, and falling in love so quickly. In the book on page 86, line 45, Romeos says "Call me but love, and I'll be new baptised: Henceforth I never will be Romeo." In this, He is not saying that he does not like the name "Romeo" but that he would leave his own family and drop his name in order to be with Juliet and be accepted by her family.

character analysis

I think Romeo is passive aggressive I think he's bipolar and quite frankly a very loose guy. He went from one girl to another and a matter of three hours he reminds me of Newt Gingrich.  I like him as a character but I do not respect him as a human being. I suppose I identify with Romeo in the fact that I have fallen in love with two girls and one day in Galveston, Texas. He's not very loyal to his name or routes such as when he said and I quote "call me but love and I'll be new baptized henceforth I'll never be Romeo"

Dustin's opinion on Romeo

Romeo is a very round character. In my opinion Romeo is a very emotional guy. The reason why is because he is about to kill himself for Rosaline because she wouldn’t marry him and she decided to be a nun.  Then he decides not to because he finds Juliet. Romeo is also very selfish because he only wants what is best for himself. For example he would only go to the party because he wanted to see Rosaline, not go because his cousin wanted him to go. Romeo is a very sensitive guy with relationships. He is so sad that he would die because a girl said that she didn’t want to date him.

Character Analysis

Romeo so far in this book is a player. He fell in love with Rosaline then after she rejected him he was heartbroken. After he found that Rosaline was going to the party he went to see her. Once he went he saw Juliet he fall madly in love with her. “I have night’s cloak to hide me from their eyes, and but thou love me, let them find me here. My life were better ended by their hate, than death prorogued, wanting of thy love” (Shakespeare, 88).  This quote is talking about how he is falling madly in love with her. When you read the book you will see how much they love each other and want to get married. If he really does love her then he should show it and mean it, because we all know that he doesn't mean it at all. That's why he is a player and doesn't really feel for her

Romeo's charecters

 Romeo's Character.

Well I think Romeo is bipolar, one minute he is depressed about Roseline and just about ready to kill himself and the next he is jolly and happy. He doesn't understand what true love is. As soon as he went to the party and saw Juliet all of a sudden he was back in love, and acting routine. Dramafied , is what you can call him, and I hate those type of characters in texts. You could almost call him a player, just hopping from girl to girl , marrying one in just a couple days, which is outrageous.

Romeo and Juliet Blog Post

In my opinion, Romeo seems to have some issues so far from what I can tell. He has been hopping from girl to girl and saying that he is in love with all of them. Romeo seems to think that every single girl that he likes is the love of his life, and as soon as that relationship ends, he is more than willing too take his life. What he doesn't realize is that love has to be mutual. In a since he is making himself look desperate. When you are as young as he is there is no reason that he should be saying to every girl that he dates within two hours that he loves them. In a way it makes it seem like he is trying to force upon himself  feeling that takes time to develop. Yes there are some occasions in which love at first sight may occur. But every single time he is with someone? No. That is just not how these things work. And there is no reason that he should be in such a horrible case of depression one second, and the minute that he leaves the house and sees Juliet everything  is all better.

blog post 2 synthesis

What is a community? A community is a group or gathering of people in an area.  I belong to the school community also known as CT.  I would say the people here are in the middle class they don’t have a lot of money, but they aren’t poor.  An outlier is a place that is secluded from everything else.  Reading this hasn’t changed a single thought about communities.  My thoughts on a thriving community are that as long as people are working from the common good of the people it should make it thrive.

MATTHEW AFFECT

“BLOG POST: SYNTHESIS” Daily question: I do think that people have advantages when it comes to activities. They might have more advantages than others, because they might be better trained than others, or better than others. Like for example the team captain in some kind of sport can have, or may have more advantages of the team, because they are better than everybody and they can have those advantages because they are more advanced and trained. They could have also just been good at that activity since the beginning they started that sport. Gladwells opinion of the daily question was that if you were born around the same month of the sport that was happening at that time, was that you were meant for that sport. Yes, he does think that other people do have advantages, because when he was looking in the birthdays, he found out that here were other people with different birthday months other than January and February. Those advantages were that if you were the oldest one in the group you had the most advantages. I do agree with him, because if you are older you can do more things. No this chapter didn’t make want to change my daily question response. He used were the hockey playing, and mentally and physically sports. No they were not convincing to me because it didn't explain enough information.

I had a huge advantage as a child because my uncle was a very good musician along with being able to read music and teach music really well. It was also very inspiring because he encouraged music on his family that I was the only one whoever picked up on it. I believe there are several advantages in the competitive spectrum. Either he music and sports you will find many advantages such as talent ability both physical. I found it so interesting about how the window for eligibility and sports is so small when it comes to date of birth. And the way that you the United States against Canada and Europe is so different when it comes to athletic eligibility in terms of talent. Gladwell's ideas expressed in the beginning of outliers talks very much about how after athletic  is so different and both spectrums. You look at the statistics between Canada and American hockey there much difference Canada is crazed with hockey fans US it's more about football and baseball and basketball and we do not give hockey the credit it deserves so we allow Canada to be the experts on that and if Gladwell decides the Canada is more accurate than I think we should except that. I think that advantages come with every human being but it's just different advantages.

The Matthew Effect

People who attend practices have an advantage over other players. The data I have is that people who actually practice and don’t slack off usually have a better advantage than the player that slacks off and blows off all of the practices. In “The Matthew Effect” they say that people who are born around the same time as the cutoff for the sport my response is not related to the one that is used in the book.  Gladwell’s response to the daily question would be that it depends on when your birthday is that gives you the advantage. Those examples would be what is going on around the time you were born that might give you the advantage. No I don’t agree with him because it really depends on what you are interested in and how far you take this does not make me rethink my daily question. Some source he used are charts of the player’s information. Yes they were convincing because a lot of the players birthdays were around the same time as the cutoff for that sport.

He probably agrees with it because in his book he keeps on saying that all the older kids have an advantage. He says that the kids are older and more mature than other kids and that is why they are so good. Yes I do because if I got in a fight with a kid my same exact size but I am more mature so I would win. No because I agreed with him. He used the team roster to show everybody the kids ages and their birthdays were in January. They were very convincing beca

I think some people do have advantages. For example, if you have more experience than you’re going to have greater  chance at succeeding. Like if Lebron James plays Conan one on one Lebron would obviously win because he has more experience, but if Conan challenged LeBron to a funny contest Conan would win because he has more experience. Experience doesn't have to physical it can be mental, sources who are older and have more wisdom will probably be wittier. Gladwell does think some players have an advantage because into in the passage he explains the cutoff date for sports and how some players are months older then others also which, have matured more. These players that are born right at the cutoff date are stronger, faster, more experienced than all the younger players. 12 months of growing makes a huge difference. I agree with him because people who are older obviously will have a closer chance at winning. These sources were convincing because all the championship teams were born at the same period near the cutoff date.

Daily Question:

In school I ran for judge for Ameritowne. I do believe some people have advantages over other people because in this competition they had to have good public speaking for the speeches we had to do and they had to have crowd appeal so they were popular and people knew who they were and liked them. My claim is that the more popular people will win the school competitions because people like them and people know who they are. My evidence is that in that school competition Adam Koskovich won because his personality was funny and he had good stage presence. Also for Homecoming it is a popularity race more than a good person race. People all know the popular kids and are more likely to vote for them because they know who they are.
In the “Matthew Effect” Gladwell’s opinion would have been that other people do have advantages based on simple things like when they were born that they can’t even control. Also he would have said that people have to work at something to get it because a poor person can’t just suddenly be rich they have to work at it to get there. Specifically, Hockey players that are born in January have a better chance of getting into the higher leagues because they or older and more mature. I agree with him because the more mature and coordinated you are the better chance you have of being selected.

This chapter sort of made me rethink it in the way that just based on the month you were born you can already have an advantage. He used a lot of chart to help us see the rosters and how all the players have a lot of key things in common. These were some convincing sources because they were real charts.

                                Daily question

By: Mikayla Bagley

I do swimming as a sport. When I was in seventh grade I would always go to the pool and just swim until it was time to go. I was never really on a swim team until I came to CT. my first day was horrible because I wasn’t ready. The other girls had lots of experience because they were on teams already and knew everything needed to know. While me on the other hand only had about 4 months’ worth of practice. I almost quit because I didn’t think I would ever improve and I thought I would always be the youngest that everyone was mean too or had to watch out for and make sure to not be my swimming partner. I tried really hard to improve. It must have worked because now I can move as fast as them, maybe even faster. So I definitely think there are advantages for some people. As in having more experience or more practice time than others.

Some hockey students are older than others which is an advantage for having more time practicing or having more time to learn than the younger hockey players. Which relates to my daily question because in both it is basically saying that others had more practice then the other people playing the sports.

Advantages: Synthesis Assignment

Some people many have an advantage of being natural athletic. You may be naturally build for a certain sport, someone may be tall and strong so they would be built to play basketball. Another advantage would be the support system that an individual or team has. If you’re supported strongly you will think positive about the direction you’re headed in and you’ll have people to push you to reaching your goal. It’s the opposite for a bad support system.

Gladwell’s opinion to the daily question would be yes, people have advantages to a sport or activity that is played. The advantages that is used in this type of situation would be the cut-off for the age differences. If you’re at the cut-off of being too young for one age group you have the advantage of being older for another age group, when your older you are stronger and will be better.

I agree with Gladwell, those people who make the cut-off are more fortunate because they will be playing against others who are younger then themselves. I am in the same situation for soccer and this odp team. I’m at the cutoff where I am younger than most girls, and it was harder for me to make the team because half the girls on my team and older for the odp team.

Dustin's synthesis assignment

1)      1)   believe that people do have advantages in sports, education, activities (etc.). this is shown by Usain Bolt because his is the world record holder for the men's 100m dash. The reason why is he trained endlessly in that event his whole life to become a professional track star.

   2)
Gladwell believes that when you were born determines whether or not you have an advantage in a sport or not. This is because the cutoff date to a sport, activity, or academic purpose because if you are older you will have an advantage in hockey, school, and baseball. Yes he believes that because of the date of birth/ cutoff day. I agree with this because it is a true statement. He used the NHL roster to determine that most players were born in January-March.

Roseto Mystery

A community is a group of people that live together of are connected in some way such as the CT community because we all help each other out here and we all are connected by going to this school.  I believe that the rich should help the less fortunate because it is a way at giving back to the community or the less fortunate.  The rich shouldn’t be greedy or rude to the less fortunate because they deserve respect even though they are less fortunate, they are still human beings.  The rich should always help people because the less fortunate could have given them the respect and the help to become rich.  The rich have so much already, why be greedy and rude with your wealth?  Why can’t they give back?
An outlier is someone or something that is extraordinary or that puzzles the normal person.  Roseto is considered an outlier because the community is so connected and healthy that Wolf does not have an answer on why the Italians of Roseto are so healthy and not dying of any type of heart related illness.  After reading this, my view hasn’t really changed because I was pretty much correct on what a community is, a group (big or small) of people that live together or are connected in some way.

Blog post 2: Synthesis

I think that when it comes to having advantages I think that some people have advantages and some people don’t. I think in the cases that people do have advantages that it is because they practice because they are trying achieve a goal or because they love the sport or activity that they are involved in. But in some cases it could also be just plain and simple that they were born with the talent or that it is in their genes to be good at the sport or activity. But I think some people do have disadvantages because some people are not able to just be good at a sport or activity. They have to work 10 times as hard just to be a fraction of how good the other people are. I don’t think that the people who are better or have more of an idea or perspective should be downgraded, I just don’t think that they should be given special treatment for the way that they are. And in some cases people are given more opportunities at one time because they rise above others without receiving a full evaluation. I think that Gladwell’s opinion would be more or less the same. I just think that he would say that there would be more of an explanation to why people are able to achieve the goals that they are able to exceed.

“The Matthew Effect”

Olivia Gaetos

I do participate in something competitive, I play CT girls basketball.  I do believe that people have certain advantages in this sport.  The players that are considered to have the advantages in my opinion are the players that are, bigger or taller, faster, stronger, that have a good memory, and how much practice or skill they have.  These advantages can either help you while you play or practice, and they can help you reach the WNBA or the NBA if you are that good at it and if you have these advantages in the game.  Gladwell’s opinion on this would be similar because he does think that certain people have an advantage in certain things.  He believes that in hockey, the player born in January will be able to be coached better, and will be able to reach the top because they will be the more advanced players of their league causing them to reach the big leagues of hockey.  It is the same with baseball.  All the players born in the month of September rather than any other month will be better at baseball because they will be more mature and trained in the sport.   I do believe that these sources are convincing because Gladwell is right because the player of child born in the month of the cutoff date of an academic or sport, the child will most likely do better than a player or child born in a month later than a cutoff date of an academic or sport.
